Memorial services were held today at 11 a.m. at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Cherokee with Pastor Jim Steen officiating. There was a family prayer service at 10:45 a.m. at the church today. Egon was born on Aug. 22, 1928 at Cherokee, to Carl and Jennie (Carlson) Hanson. He attended Afton Country School and later Aurelia High School. He was married to Shirley Pfalzgraf on Dec. 29, 1961 at Yankton, S.D. He was a lifelong farmer and had also worked at Cherokee Cold Storage for many years, retiring on Aug. 22, 1990.
Egon was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, lawn mowing, and especially the time he spent with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers - Henry, Kenneth, Harvey and Raymond; one sister, Judy and one grandson,Jared Hanson.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Shirley; his seven children: Roger (Pam) Hanson of Blue River, Wis.; Pam (Larry) Maxwell of Cherokee; Lynn Smith of Cherokee; Michael Hanson of Powell, Wyo.; Jeffrey (L.J.) Hanson of Truesdale; Danny (Theda) Hanson of Lothian, Md.; Sandra (Kenny) Frank of Cherokee; 15 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren; also several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
