Tennis Braves tumble to Storm Lake

The Cherokee Braves opened their 2012 Lakes Conference tennis season with a 7-2 setback at the hands of Storm Lake here last week.

In varsity singles matches for Cherokee, Brett Walker lost 10-2 to Cole Anderson at #1, Matt Enderlin beat Storm Lake's Blake Overmohl 11-9 at #2, Eric Wilkie lost 10-1 to Jesse Luedtke at #3, Alec Schultz fell 10-1 to Geoff Converse at #4, Andrea Pavanello fell 10-2 to Taylor Friesen at #5, and Nathan Fowler lost 10-5 rto Ross Dewerff at #6.

In varsity doubles for the Braves, Walker and Wilkie lost 10-3 to Anderson and Overmohl at #1, Enderlin and Schultz beat Luedtke and Kyle Reimers 10-8 at #2, and Pavanello and Fowler lost 10-3 to Converse and Dewerff at #3.

In JV action for Cherokee, Alexx maurer lost 8-1 at #1, Trent Larson fell 8-3 at #2, Nick Bennigsdorf lost 8-0 at #3, and 8-3 at #5.

"We are extremely young and inexperienced this season due to a variety of issues," said veteran Cherokee coach Dave Zelle. "Matt Enderlin had a nice win at #2 coming off ACL surgery that had him sidelined for six months. He and Alec Schultz also teamed up for a nice win at #2 doubles."

The Braves face two long Lakes Conference road trips this week, playing at Spirit Lake tonight, and at Estherville-LC Thursday.
