GOWRIE - Five Cherokee Braves, led by Jack Letsche's and Skyler Mongan's first-place finishes, competed in the recent weight lifting meet at Prairie Valley High School here.

Competing by weight class in both the bench press and hex-bar deadlift were Letsche, Nate Seliger, Stetson Dagel, Skyler Mongan, and Devon Mongan.

Letsche won first place in the bench press (225 pounds) per his body weight, and was third in the deadlift (300); Skyler Mongan was first in the deadlift (400) and sixth in the bench press (200); Seliger was second in the deadlift (450) and third in the bench press (190); Dagel was fourth in the deadlift (350) and fourth in the bench press (210); and Devin Mongan was fifth in the bench press (180), and eighth in the deadlift (320).

"It was great to have two individual champions, but the great thing about lifting competitions is that you can measure success in multiple ways, and at some level all of our athletes were successful," said Cherokee coach Travis Schipper who, along with coach Mike Nixon, accompanied the kids to the competition.
