RV girls win Class B at Kraai Relays

In the 16th annual Russ Kraai Relays Class B competition Monday in Holstein, the River Valley girls took the team championship, outscoring runner-up Laurens-Marathon 286-242.

Individually for the Wolverines, Olivia Goettsch won the 3000 Meter Run in 13:04,84 and teammate Brittany Hunwardsen finished second, in a time of 13:43.65; Goettsch also won the High Jump with her leap of 4-4; Brittny Shropshire won the 100 Meter Hurdles in a time of 16.62 and also finished second in both the 110 and 200 meter dashes with her times of 14.42 and 29.84, respectively; Alysa Georgopoulus won the 400 Meter Hurdles with her time of 1:23.34 allowing her to nip teammate Tonya Redenius, who clocked a time of 1:23.59. Redenius also took third place in the 100 Meter Hurdles, running a time of 19.56; Kelsey Brown won the Long Jump with a leap of 10-11, beating teammate Kristin O'Connell by one inch; Paige Korver finished second in the 400 Meter Dash in 1:15.72 and Ashley Hunwardsen was third, in 1:18.83; Brittany Hunwardsen was second in the 800 Meter Run in a time of 2:56.48.

The RV girls did well in relays as well, finishing first in the 4 x 800 (Ashley Hunwardsen, Alysa Georgopoulus, Paige Korver, Kelsie Brown) and Shuttle Hurdle (Tonya Redenius, Kristin O'Connell, Jacie Jepsen, Alysa Georgopoulus) Relays. Their time in the Shuttle Relay was 1:32.23 and in the 4 x 800 it was 13:18.15.

The Wolverines finished second in the 4 ,x 200 and 4 x 400 relays and third in the 4 x 100, Sprint Medley and Distance Medley.

The Ridge View JV also competed in Class B and did well, with the Raptors' Brooke Lindgren winning the 400 Meter Dash in a time of 1:12.46; Cheyenne Spahr finished third in the 1500 Meter Run with her time of 6:42.94; the Raptors finished first in the 4 x 400 Meter Relay with their team of Bailey Winterhof, Kate Mathes, Angela Livezey and Emily Brosamle finishing in a time of 5:08.59, and second in the 800 Sprint Medley (Hope Clark, Rose Joens, Bailey Winterhof and Angela Livezey).

The River Valley boys finished 4th in the Team standings, trailing Storm Lake St. Mary's, Laurens-Marathon and Gehlen Catholic.

The Wolverines took home three first place medals in the field events as Zak Gander won the High Jump with his jump of 6-0, and Taylor Cobb was double winner, taking the Shot Put (48-10) and Discus (108- 3 1/2). The RV boys also finished second in the 4 x 800 Relay (Drew Payne, Adam Schirmer, Nathan Utesch, Josh Pansegrau) and the 4 x 400 Relay (Payne, Wyatt Fitch, Utesch and Pansegrau) and third in the 200 Meter Dash (Jeremy Gebers, 25.68), 110 Meter Hurdles (Zak Gander,18.92) , the 4 x 100 Meter Relay (Kyler Lewis, Parker Goettsch, Samuel Briese and Jeremy Gebers) and the 1600 Sprint Medley (Kyler Lewis,Parker Goettsch, Drew Payne and Josh Pansegrau).

Alta-Aurelia and Ridge View also ran JV teams in Class B, and the Warriors'

Shuttle Hurdle team of Jayson VanHaaften, Jason Flaherty, Austin Delp and Alex Larson won the event in a time of 1:10.39. A-A also took second place in the 4 x 200 Relay (Jesse Boehmer, Sean Berg, Jason Flaherty and Nathan Flaherty) and 3rd in the 4 x 400 (Nathan Flaherty, Sean Berg, Tyler Larson and Kaleb Howey).
