Spindler medalist at Spencer triangular

Friday, April 13, 2012

SPENCER - Emmetsburg captured a boys Lakes Conference golf triangular here Tuesday night, carding a 175, followed by Spencer 176, and Cherokee 180.

Cherokee senior Jake Spindler was meet medalist after scoring a 38. Emmetsburg's Mike Myers was runner-up with a 39.

Other Cherokee scores were Austin Winchell 42, Devin Mongan 45, Zac Anderson 55, Andrew Zarr 73, and Josh Haupert 76.

"I was really encouraged by the strong play from Jake Spindler and Austin Winchell," said Cherokee coach James De Vos. "Jake won the meet outright with a score of 38 and Austin tied for 3rd overall with a 42. Those are great scores for this early season.

'Devin Mongan also shot a career low in a varsity meet with a score of 45. Our team score of 180 was 20 strokes lower than last year's first round at Spencer so the improvement was impressive."

The Braves golf in a triangular at Ida Grove tonight, also featuring Ridge View and host OABCIG. On Saturday they compete in the Spencer Invitational.

In JV action at Spencer, the host Tigers won with a 185, followed by Emmetsburg 211, and Cherokee 261.

Cherokee scores included Jordan Taylor 58, Hunter Eaton 63, Aaron Boisen 68, Zane Young 72, Will Vietor and Jacob Fry 78 each.
