The busy Cherokee Braves golf team competed in the rugged Spencer Invitational Saturday after playing in a non-conference triangular hosted by Odebolt-Arthur/Battle Creek-Ida Grove in Ida Grove Friday.
Cherokee placed second in the OABCIG triangular won by host Falcons with a 165, followed by the Braves 187, and Ridge View 225.
Austin Winchell and Adam Pitts led Cherokee's scoring, each carding a 42, followed by Jake Spindler 47, Rick Weaver 56, and Devin Mongan 58 and Zac Anderson 62.
Dakota Miller of OABCIG was medalist with a 37, followed by teammateConner Christiansen 42, Austin Sadler 43, and Adam Beckermann 43.
Logan Richard was low medal for Ridge View with a 51, followed by Michael Currie 57, TylerAlbers 58, and Tyler Drey 59,
The Braves were 12th at Spencer after carding a 361.
Clear Lake won the team title with a 313, followed by Spencer Purple 324, Harlan 327, Humboldt 330, Carroll 331, Spencer Gold 337, Emmetsburg and Estherville-LC 343 (tie), Forest City 350, Denison-Schleswig 352, Algona 353, Cherokee 361, Le Mars 368, and Webster City 386.
Winchell paced the Braves with an 87, while Spindler shot 88, Pitts 91, Anderson 95, Weaver 96, and Mongan 96.
"The weather turned out OK for us at the Spencer Invitational for the first time in the past six years," noted Cherokee coach James DeVos. "However, we struggled with the quick greens at the Spencer Golf and Country Club.
"Our 12th place finish was a bit of a let down after seeing the course on the previous Tuesday. However, that's how golf is sometimes. You can have your good days and your bad days."
