MMC girls 3rd at Pocahontas Relays

POCAHONTAS - The Marcus-Meriden-Cleghrorn girls track and field team placed third in Class B in last week's Pocahontas Area/Pomeroy-Palmer Relays, won by hosts PA/P-P with 139 points.

Manson NW Webster was second in the team race with 115 points, followed by MMC 95, Emmetsburg 77, Newell-Fonda 74, and Maurens-Marathon 72.

The Lady Eagles captured four first-pace finishes, inclluding Niocki Schwarz's 5:35 clocking in the 1500 meters, and Erica Dreckman's 28.8 time in the 200 meters. Dreckman also was second in the 100 meters in 12.6.

Two MMC relay teams won firsts, including the distance medley of Carly Lehnhoff, Dreckman, Sydney Roberts, and Schwarz clocked in 4:42; and the 4x800 of Roberts, Kassi Kellog, Schwarz, and Haley Moser timed in 11:44. The sprint medley of Lehnhoff, Angeleah Hoefling, Roberts, and Dreckman was second, timed in 2:03.

Also for MMC, Sarah Bird was second in the 3000 meters in 13:45, Jasi Vasher third in the high jump with a leap of 4-8, and Brandi Orr fourth in the discus with a throw of 87-2.

The Eagles' shuttle hurdle relay of Kellog, Vasher, Moser, and Kaya Hantsbarger was third in 1:32; and the 4x400 relay was third in 4:44 featuring Lehnhoff, Roberts, Vasher, and Moser. The 4x200 relay of Lehnhoff, Beth Specht, Moser, and Hoefling was fourth in 2:02; as was the 4x100 relay of Hantsbarger, Specht, Kellog, and Hoefling timed in 59.8.

"it was windy, but a good meet for the Eagles," said MMC coach Ric Collins. "Many events were strong and it took great efforts just to place."
