It's that time of year again and Cherokee Chamber of Commerce's Hot Dog Day is coming. Hot Dog Day will be held on May 10 at 5 p.m. with the CYSBA kids and coaches scheduled to parade down Main Street at 5:30 p.m. They will leave the parking lot at Fifth Street and Main and parade down Main Street to Hy-Vee Drugstore.

Cherokee Chamber of Commerce Director Julie Hering Kent is encouraging area business to order as may boxes as they need but they must complete the Hot Dog Days Order Form and return it to the Chamber of Commerce by this Friday.

Cost to participate is $30 per box and business will receive 80 hot dogs, 80 buns, 2 liter bottles of Coke/Diet Coke, cups, napkins and advertising for the event.

Be the next Top Dog. Each year the Chamber gives out the Top Dog Award, which is a lot of fun and encourages businesses to compete for the Top Dog Award. You can dress up, have a theme, or serve fabulous condiments.

The winner of the Top Dog Award will receive the traveling trophy to display in their business for one whole year. They will be judged on presentation, creativity and condiments. Be sure to check "yes" on your entry form if you want to compete so they know to send the judges to your business.

Hot Dog Day is designed to be a customer appreciation event. Businesses are to consider running Hot Dog Day specials, or handing out coupons with the hot dogs that can be brought back to your store the following day or two.

You can pick up your hot dogs and supplies from the Chamber of Commerce Office on Wednesday, May 9.

In 2011, Cherokee businesses served 5,840 hot dogs in under two hours. Cherokee's population is 5,253, which means they could have served every person in Cherokee 1.11 hot dogs.

If you have any questions contact Julie Hering Kent at the Cherokee Chamber of Commerce at 225-6414 or email Julie@cherokeeiowachamber.com.
