AURELIA - The Aurelia School District Board of Directors met in a special session here on Thursday for a Building Renovation Workshop concerning this summer's building project.
Matt Gillespie from Piper Jaffray Investment Services in Des Moines discussed the pros and cons of the various means of financing the project, including bond issues involving either property tax or sales tax.
Superintendent Lynn Evans will contact a local banker as soon as possible to see what terms they would offer to finance part of the project, which is expected to cost up to $1.8 million dollars, and use existing funds that the school district has for the balance of the project.
Project Manager Cheung Chan of Invision Architects briefed Board members, via telephone, on the timeline for the project. Bids have been requested for the gymnasium and elevator projects, and the bids will be opened at 2 p.m. on May 11. The contracts will be awarded on May 18, and construction will begin on May 24, the day after classes end.
The dates for the overall general construction are May 24 - August 14, with work inside the elevator shaft continuing until September 7.
Evans said that phase, which will take place after classes have resumed in the fall, should be relatively quiet, and not be a distraction to classes.
The bleachers are scheduled to be installed in the gym from August 2 - August 8, but that can't be done until the gym floor is finished, which is scheduled for July 25- 31.
The kitchen equipment will not be moved to its new location, in the former shop area, until that area is completed, and Evans said he has spoken to someone about moving the equipment.
