Braves golfers compete at Storm Lake

Monday, April 30, 2012

STORM LAKE - Medalist Ryan Gutz carded a 35 to lead Storm Lake to the championship of a Lakes Conference boys golf quadrangular here last week.

The host Tornadoes shot a 155 team score to defeat runner-up Estherville-LC with 177, followed by Le Mars 179, and Cherokee 186.

Jake Spindler was low for the Braves with a 39, followed by Austin Winchell 41, Devin Mongan 49, Zac Anderson and Rick Weaver 57 each, and Jordan Taylor 59.

Cherokee did not field a full team in the JV match to count in the team scoring. Braves' scores were Adam Boisen 63, Mason Hatch 64, and Josh Haupert 69.

"It was a beautiful day to play golf," noted Cherokee coach James DeVos. "The winds were calm and the course was in great shape. Jake Spindler won runner-up medalist honors with a 39 and Austin Winchell shot a 41.

"Traditionally we don't play too well at Lake Creek so it was great to see those guys shoot some good scores."
