Cherokee tennis girls handle E-LC

ESTHERVILLE - The gritty Cherokee Washington High girls tennis team clipped Estherville-LC 5-4 in a well-played Lakes Conference match here Monday night.

In varsity singles for WHS, Emily Estala lost 5-10 to Corin Swalve at #1, Taylor Meyerhofer lost 4-10 to Bailey Hagen at #2, Megan Carlson beat Kelly Zebedee 10-0 at #3, Brooke Luetkeman beat Carol Daniels 10-3 at #4, Megan Hummel beat Emily Chrestiansen 10-5 at #5, and Shelby Bingham lost 2-10 to Maddy Burns at #6.

In varsity doubles for Cherokee, Estala and meyerhofer lost 4-10 to Swalve and Hagen at #1, Luetkeman and Hummel beat Zebedee and Chestiansen 10-5 at #2, and Carlson and Lauren yearous beat Daniels and Burns 11-10 (7-4 tiebreaker) at #3.

"There were a lot of tight matches that played late," said Cherokee coach Tricia Langholdt. "The girls never gave up and fought hard for the win."

E-LC won the JV match 7-2.

In JV singles, Rachel Corken lost 1-8 at 31, Cassy Joines lost 6-8 ar 32, Jennifer Davis lost 2-8 at #3, Lauren Yearous won 8-5 at #4, Dallas Ellis lost 0-8 at #5, and Sammi Schoenherr lost 2-8 at #6.

In JV doubles, Jones and Davis lost 6-8 at #1, Corken and Ellis lost 2-8 at #2, and Brianna Fowler and Whitney Webb won 8-6 ar #3.
