STORM LAKE - Chilly, windy weather conditions and intermittent rain drove up the scores at Saturday's Storm Lake Boys Golf Invitational at Lake Creek Country Club here.
Carroll Kuemper won the 18-hole competition carding a 307 team score, followed by Storm Lake 320, Humboldt 327, Spencer 327, Spirit Lake 331, Carroll 342, Estherville-LC 343, Alta-Aurelia 347, Denison-Schleswig 353, Algona 363, Cherokee 370, Le Mars 370.
Adam Pitts paced the Braves with an 85, followed by Austin Winchell 91, Jake Spindler 94, Zac Anderson 100. Also for Cherokee, Devin Mongan shot 115, and Jordan Taylor 126.
Jaden Holton led the A-A boys with a 79, followed by Spencer Bezoni 84, Colton Ballantyne 90, Nick Radke 94. Also for the Warriors, Kale Nelson carded a 96, and Jeremiah Ruby 100.
"Saturday was not a very nice day to play golf at Lake Creek Country Club and the overall scores showed it," said Cherokee coach James DeVos." Carrol Kuemper continued their incredibly strong play in class 2A. Cherokee struggled to avoid the big numbers on certain holes and we just couldn't get things going. "Adam Pitts played pretty well, finishing with an 85. Overall, however, our team score of 370 is just slightly above our average for the year. So far we haven't been able to put a full meet together as a team. Hopefully, this week we can improve on that."
