Hot Dog Day is Thursday

Wednesday, May 9, 2012

It's that time of year again - the Cherokee Chamber of Commerce's Hot Dog Day is coming.

Hot Dog Day will begin at 5 p.m. on Thursday, with the CYSBA kids and coaches scheduled to parade down Main Street at 5:30 p.m. They will leave the parking lot at Fifth Street and Main and parade down Main Street to Hy-Vee Drugstore.

Each year, the Chamber gives out the 'Top Dog Award', which is a lot of fun and encourages businesses to compete for the honor. Businesses are encouraged to dress up, have a theme, or serve fabulous condiments.

The winner of the Top Dog Award will receive a traveling trophy to display in their business for one whole year. They will be judged on presentation, creativity and condiments.

Hot Dog Day is designed to be a customer appreciation event. Businesses are to consider running Hot Dog Day specials, or handing out coupons with the hot dogs that can be brought back to your store the following day or two.

You can pick up your hot dogs and supplies from the Chamber of Commerce Office today.

In 2011, Cherokee businesses served 5,840 hot dogs in under two hours. Cherokee's population is 5,253, which means they could have served every person in Cherokee 1.11 hot dogs.
