Nursing Home Week May 13-19

Next week is National Nursing Home Week and the Cherokee Villa, Careage Hills, and Country Side Estates all have activities scheduled.

National Nursing Home Week recognizes residents in long-term care settings who live life to the fullest, and the dedicated staff who care for them.

This observance is a perfect opportunity to involve families, community members, youth and others in a community-wide show of support and respect for these individuals and the staff who provide the care or provide support services.

Individuals and local organizations design activities to foster intergenerational contact, strengthen family relationships, and to encourage volunteerism.

Activities for Careage Hills are as follows:

Monday, May 14 at 10 a.m. - Helium Balloon lift-off and a Mayor proclamation declaring the week of May 13-19 as National Nursing Home Week in Cherokee.

Tuesday, May 15 - Grilling for elders and staff at fellowship meal at 4 p.m. preparation for Candlelight Supper for elders, 6 p.m. Candlelight Supper for elders.

Wednesday, May 16 - 7 a.m. - Department Heads to prepare and serve a hardy breakfast for elders and staff, 2 p.m. Ice Cream Social.

Thursday, May 17 - Donuts for elders and staff at breakfast, 2 p.m. Careage Hills hosting "Almost Elvis" entertainment with Country Side Estates, Cherokee Villa and The Gardens attending, 3 p.m. Social.

Friday, May 18 - Staff Appreciation Day, 2 p.m. elders go to Cherokee Villa for entertainment.

Saturday, May 19 - 1:30 p.m. Bingo with Shelly, 3 p.m. Social.

Activities at the Cherokee Villa for National Nursing Home Week are as follows:

Monday, May 14 - Lutheran Communion at 11 a.m., Entertainment at Country Side Estates at 2 p.m.

Tuesday, May 15 - Mass at 2 p.m. and Candlelight Dinner at 6 p.m.

Wednesday, May 16 - Resident and Staff Cook-Out at noon, Special Bingo by Cherokee Villa Auxiliary at 2 p.m.

Thursday, May 17 - Waffle Breakfast at 7:30 a.m., Outing to Careage Hills at 2 p.m.

Friday, May 18 - Western Hoe-Down at Cherokee Villa with special entertainment by Patsy Cline/Elaine Peacock at 2 p.m., guest will be Country Side Estates, The Gardens, and Careage Hills. Sponsored by the Cherokee Villa Auxiliary.

Activities at Country Side Estates for National Nursing Home Week are as follows:

Monday, May 14 - Music with Country Rovers at 2 p.m.

Tuesday, May 15 - Bingo at 2 p.m.

Wednesday, May 16 - Residents will travel to Careage Hills for entertainment at 2 p.m.

Thursday, May 17 - Bowling at 2 p.m.

Friday, May 18 - Residents will travel to Cherokee Villa for entertainment at 2 p.m.

Saturday, May 19 - There will be a Bible Study from noon to 2 p.m.
