Driver's Education sign up is in progress for the Cherokee Community School
Driver's education program. Washington High Students may sign up at the high school office now.
Students in 8th grade who are 15 years of age or need a school permit will
sign up in the near future at the Cherokee Middle School. Students must have an instructional permit in order to sign up.
The fee for students enrolled in Cherokee School System will be $250. This is payable to Cherokee Community School by May 16 to reserve a spot
in the class. Out of district students will be assessed $300.
May 22, 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. will be orientation in the WHS Auditorium. Students
will meet at 4:30 p.m. in the Auditorium. Parents are invited and encouraged to come at 5:15 p.m.for a presentation from the Driver's License Supervisor.
Iowa requires 30 hours of classroom instruction and six hours of behind-the-
wheel instruction. All classes are mandatory. Classes will be at Washington High
School from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.. Students must pass both the driving and the classroom to meet the state requirements.
Classroom dates are May 22, May 30, June 1, June 4, June 6, June 8, June 11,
June 13, June 15, June 18, June 20. Students will need to complete driving assignments, but will be finished by July 3 with the entire program.
It is suggested that parents start driving with their child in the family car to have
