In Class 1A District action at West Sioux of Hawarden Thursday night, the South O'Brien boys qualified six events for the Iowa State Track & Field Co-ed Championships Thursday through Saturday in Des Moines.
Also in Hawarden, the Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn girls qualified three events for the State Meet, while the MMC boys were shut out advancing any events to State.
The South O'Brien girls are competing in Class 2A this year.

In Class 1A action at Hinton, River Valley qualified three events, including Tanner Cobb in shot put (50-7 1/2), Zac Gander in the high jump (6-0), and Brittny Shropshire in the 100 meter hurdles (16.44). Also for RV, Josh Pansegrau was second in the 800 meters in 2:11.49, but failed to qualify for State.
For the SOS boys in Thursday's Districts, Cole Ebel won the 100 meters in a time of 11.96; Adam Paulsen won the 800 meters in 2:07.41; Matt DeVos placed second in the 400 meter hurdles in 57.04; Bret Puhrmann was second in the long jump with a 20-10 3/4 leap; the 4x200 relay team of Hunter Fiddelke, Ebel, John Gray, and Puhrmann won in 1:33.94; and the 4x100 relay unit comprised of that same foursome clocked a 45.43 for third place and a trip to State.

The MMC girls qualified in three events, including Erica Dreckman's runner-up finish in the 100 meters in 13.52, and her third-place finish in the 200 meters in 27.46. Nikki Schwarz also qualified with runner-up finish in the 3000 meters in 11:36.69. Schwarz also was second in Districts in the 1500 meters but did not qualify with her posted time of 5:33.94.
