Alfred was born May 25, 1924, in Willow Township, the son of Arthur and Esther (Smith) Jenness. He later married Barbara Peters on Feb. 18, 1961 in Moline, IL, and she preceded him in death in 1991.
Alfred worked as a chiropractor, graduating from Palmer College. He is also a lifetime member of The American Legion Post 0188 and L.A. Wescott Post 2253 in Cherokee; The Iowa Falls Moose; and the Mississippi Valley Country and Western Music Association, of which he was a co-founder. Alfred was also a member of the CMA Country Music Association and was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in Nashville, Tenn. in 1968.
Survivors include his daughters Michelle Jenness and Janice Jenness-Cope; sons Ed Jenness and Alfred Jr; brothers, Miron and LeRoy Jenness of Cherokee; and sisters Alta May Bauman and Alma Hendrickson. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Barbara.
