HOLSTEIN - Faith Lutheran, Holstein's newest church, reaches another milestone when they welcome their first full-time pastor, Rev. Chris Schroder, next month.

Everyone is invited to worship at Faith with Pastor Schroder on Sunday, June 3, with Sunday School and Adult Bible Study at 9 a.m. and Worship at 10 a.m. An Installation Service will be held later this summer.

Pastor Schroder, his wife, Heidi, and their two children, Noah, 7, and Sara, 6, are moving to Holstein June 1, from Duluth, Minn., where he served as Associate Pastor and director of Youth Ministries at Christ Lutheran Church. The Schroders are originally from North Dakota and have also lived in Issaquah, Wash., and St. Paul, Minn.

"Our family desires to go where we are called," said Pastor Schroder. "We feel richly blessed that our next move will be to Holstein. We are currently in the process of packing and completing our time in Duluth. Noah and Sara will finish out the school year and then we will be on our way."

The Faith congregation will assist the Schroders with their move. Members will convoy to Duluth to haul their belongings back to Holstein, while another crew will ready things at their new home and help unload when they arrive.

"As one of the supply pastors who had the privilege of serving at Faith Lutheran over the past few months, I rejoice with the congregation, as they welcome their first full-time pastor and his lovely family," said Rev. Dr. Duane Lindberg of Waterloo, who is one of the founders of The American Association of Lutheran Churches (AALC). "Pastor Schroder is committed to the total reliability of the Bible in his preaching, teaching, and soul care. He will also be a strong supporter of Faith Lutheran's role in the larger Holstein community."

Pastor Schroder is a strong believer in Biblical preaching and small-group Bible studies. He feels that developing a youth program to equip the future generations with solid teaching of the Word is essential.

Pastor Schroder, the son of missionaries, felt the call to the ministry while he was studying Nursing in North Dakota.

"I was teaching Sunday School at my home church and really enjoyed working with people and teaching from the Bible," he recalled. After graduation, he continued with his Biblical studies.

Pastor Schroder and Heidi both earned bachelor's degrees in Nursing from the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks. In 2001, he earned a Certificate in Biblical Studies at Trinity Lutheran College in Issaquah, Wash. Four years later he earned the Master of Divinity in 2005 from the American Lutheran Theological Seminary in Minneapolis, Minn., a seminary of The AALC, which was formed 25 years ago from former American Lutheran Church (ALC) congregations.

The Schroders are looking forward to their move from Duluth, Minn., a city with 85,000 residents, to Holstein, population 1,400.

"We are excited to be moving to a smaller town where there is a greater sense of community and traditional values. We look forward to settling in and meeting the residents of Holstein and the surrounding communities," Pastor Schroder said.

"The little things the community of Holstein offers, like our kids being able to ride their bikes to visit friends, a public swimming pool, tennis courts, lush green grass and shorter winters, are some of the things we look forward to the most."

The family enjoys outdoor activities together, including camping, biking, and hiking. They also enjoy being home together playing games or watching a good family movie.

As a Registered Nurse, Heidi's most recent experience was in the Emergency Department. She is going to keep her options open, including possibly working on her master's degree or seeking a school nurse position.

Faith Lutheran is located on U.S. Hwy 59, at 113 N. Main St., in downtown Holstein. The congregation, which first gathered in September 2010, invites everyone to join them each Sunday for Worship at 10 a.m., with Sunday School and Adult Bible Study at 9 a.m., and fellowship at 9:45 a.m.
