A-A girls advance to State Golf Meet

EMMETSBURG - The Alta-Aurelia girls golf team continued their season-long excellent play Monday on the Five Island Golf Club course here, cruising to a victory in the Class 2A Region 1 Golf Tournament.

The Warrior girls posted a team score of 379 to beat runner-up Sheldon by 12 strokes. Both teams qualified for the Class 2A State Tournament, which will be held on the River Valley Course in Adel on Tuesday May 29 and Wednesday May 30.

Scoring for Alta-Aurelia on Monday were April Goslinga (91), Kelsie Snyder (93), Jenna Snyder (97) and Erica Lockin (98). Jennifer Jensen (99) and Maddi Meier (130) also played for the Warriors.

Alex Mankle of Okoboji was meet medalist with an 18 hole score of 80 and runner-up medalist was Karah Huinker of Garner-Hayfield, with an 86. Those two will advance to the State Meet in the individual competition, as will Sara McMichael of Nashua-Plainfield (89), Carrie Wahlstrom of Sheldon (90), and Goslinga of Alta-Aurelia (91).

For anyone who would like to follow the A-A girls at the State Meet, the address of the course is 22927 Valley View Trail in Adel, and play will begin at 9 a.m. each day with a shotgun start.
