Cherokee Regional Medical Center's Dondee Halverson was recently named to the list of 100 Great Iowa Nurses for 2012.

Halverson currently serves as the Emergency Room/Surgery Department Nurse Manager at CRMC. She and the other honorees were recently recognized at a ceremony in Des Moines.

Halverson, a 26-year nursing veteran, was nominated for the award by her peers last fall. Those selected to receive this honor come from across the state of Iowa in a variety of health care sectors, including hospitals, medical clinics, and long-term care facilities, as well as school and office nurses.

Their courage, competence, and commitment to patient care have been deemed exemplary within the nursing profession.

"I truly love being a nurse. I have worked in five different facilities in a variety of departments during my nursing career. This has helped me become well-rounded within my profession which has allowed me to climb the ranks to my current position at CRMC," said Halverson. "I am honored that my peers nominated me and that I was selected to receive this recognition."

"We were pleased that Dondee was selected for this honor as she has worked very hard within the nursing profession for a number of years," said John Comstock, CEO of Cherokee Regional Medical Center.

"We are blessed with many talented health care professionals who choose to serve Cherokee County and the surrounding areas. When one of our own gets recognized, it is a testament to the quality of care one can expect to receive at CRMC," added Comstock.
