EARLY - The Ridge View Raptors opened their baseball season here on Tuesday against Newell-Fonda, and when the Raptors broke open a tight game with a nine-run outburst in the bottom of the 5th, it allowed them to end the game prematurely via the 10-run rule, 13-3.
Raptors coach Shannon Tesch said "It's always nice to get that first win. We got into a 0-3 hole after two innings, but we didn't panic. Our guys stayed calm and patient and waited for the opportunity to open up a lead, which happened in the 5th inning. (It was a) good team win. "
Austin Struchen went 3-4 at the plate for Ridge View, including a double, and he drove in four runs.
Travis Hoeppner was 2-3 and scored twice, and pitching duties were split between starter Kyle Wessling, who allowed three hits and no earned runs in 3 1/3 innings, and Kris Alesch, who allowed no hits or runs in 1 2/3 innings and picked up the win.
