The Cherokee School District Board of Education Monday night approved several staff resignations and contracts before entering into closed session for the purpose of discussing collective bargaining strategies and issues.
Among the resignations accepted by the Board were Amy Douglas as Special Education Associate at Washington High School; Sarah Nolder as Special Education Associate at Roosevelt Elementary; Jessica Knipple as Special Education Associate, 7th grade girls and boys basketball coach at Cherokee Middle School, and as the WHS head softball coach following the 2012 season; and Beth Ebert as WHS Student Council Advisor pending finding a suitable replacement.
The Board also accepted the resignation of Travis Schipper as WHS freshman football coach, who will assume head varsity football coach for the Braves this coming season. A contract also was approved for Schipper as WHS varsity girls track and field coach, replacing Jolene Hultgren, who has retired.
The Board also approved a contract for Laura Brandt as a teacher at the Early Childhood Learning Center (ECLC).
Following the closed executive session, the Board ratified support staff contracts for the 2012-2013 school year calling for a 3.5 percent total package increase, including hikes in health insurance premiums and IPERS.
The non-union support staff is comprised of department heads, secretaries, para-professionals, bus drivers, and food service.
