GALVA - In an early season battle of highly-regarded softball teams, the Ridge View Raptors hosted the very talented Newell-Fonda squad here on Tuesday night and the Mustangs hung a tough 3-2 loss on the Raptors in a very good ball game.
Taking the loss on the mound for Ridge View was Gretchen Kistenmacher, who pitched all seven innings and allowed three runs, with only one being earned, on seven hits. Kistenmacher walked two and struck out seven. Leading the way at the plate for the Raptors were Ashlynn Blenner, who went 3-4 with four stolen bases, and Dana Hustedt who was 2-3 with a double. The Raptors had nine hits as a team and Coach Scott Phelps felt the team gave a good effort, as they "battled the whole game."
Though they lost the game, Coach Phelps felt he saw a lot of improvement from the team's first game, and he commented that "it is only going to get better as the kids continue work hard."
