46th annual Cherokee PRCA Rodeo kicks off today

The 46th edition of the Cherokee PRCA Rodeo kicks off today at the Cherokee County Fairgrounds and will run through the evening performances on Friday and Saturday.

Rodeo Stock Contractor will again be Northwest Iowa's own Rodeo Hall of Famer, Bob Barnes of Barnes/MJM PRCA Rodeo. The annual PRCA Rodeo is sponsored by the Cherokee Chamber of Commerce Rodeo Board.

PRCA Events include Bull Riding, Bareback Riding, Saddle Bronc, Steer Wrestling and Tie Down Roping. Barrel Racing is a WPRA Event.

Gate prices this year will be $12 for an adult and $7 for a child (13-17) for the tonight's show. Children 12 and under will be admitted free, if accompanied by a paid adult.

Friday is Queen's Night and the show is $15 for adults and $7 for children. Children three and under will be admitted free.

Saturday's show prices are $15 for adults and $7 for children.

Thursday is "Family Night," with Family Fun Activities scheduled for 6 p.m., including free pony rides, a petting zoo, and Western vendors. There will also be a Calf Ribbon Race, and boys and girls are welcome to participate.

The Rodeo Performance will begin at 7:30 p.m., "come rain or shine."

Friday's activities will begin with the Chamber Coffee at the LaGrande Hacienda Best Western motel at 9:30 a.m. and the Queen Luncheon will be held at Holzhauer Truck Center from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The evening's activities start with the Rodeo Queen Coronation at 6:30 p.m. Audience members who would like autographs of all Rodeo Queens are asked to get them at this time.

The Rodeo Performance will start at 7:30 p.m.

Saturday's activities begin with a Western BBQ at the Historic Cherokee Depot from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m., and rumor has it that a Train Robbery may take place soon after High Noon.

Next on the bill will be the popular Rodeo Parade through downtown Cherokee, starting at 4 p.m.

At 6 p.m. the Pony Rides and Petting Zoo will open at the Cherokee County Fairgrounds.

The evening will conclude, of course, with the final Rodeo Performance of the 46th Annual Cherokee PRCA Rodeo, at 7:30 p.m. plus fireworks to follow the Rodeo.
