We ended up with seven total hits to their six and I thought we pitched well enough to win this game, but did not take care of the mental aspects." The following night, the Wolverines got on the winning track as they edged Spalding Catholic by a 6-5 score. Emma Sweeney was 2 for 2 , scored one run and drove in another; Erin Brasser was 2 for 3 with 3 RBI and a run scored; and Brett Struve was 2 for 3 , including a two-base knock. Taylor Paulsen came in to get the win, hurling the final 2 1/3 innings and shutting out the Spartans on one hit , while walking one. Coach Struve commented, "Our pitchers did an excellent job of containing Spalding's batters. We never allowed that big inning by the other team, which has been an issue for us. We also did an excellent job of baserunning tonight and got that extra base when we needed it every time. It was a much needed win and an excellent team effort.."
On Tuesday, the Woverines took on Gehlen Catholic and dropped a 10-6 decision to the Lady Jays. Rachel Struve was 2 for 4 at the plate for SOS, scoring one run and driving in three more, while straing pitcher Emily Riedemann was 1 for 1 with an RBI. Riedemann went 1 2/3 innings on the mound and gave up eight runs (four earned) on five hits. She also gave up three bases on balls. Taylor Paulsen came in for 4 1/3 innings and allowed two runs (one earned) on three hits, while walking three and striking out three.Coach Struve was proud of her team, saying, "After giving up six runs in the 1st inning we could have just given up, but we stuck it out and made a game of it. We hit the ball fairly well and had some good at -bats. causing the Gehlen pitcher to issue nine walks. We need to capitalize on those walks and score more runs when the other team is giving us that many free passes on base. "
