Marcus Meriden Cleghorn fourth grade students recently got closer to nature as they participated in a class camp-out at Koser Spring Lake Park in Cherokee. This was the fourteenth year of heading the camp-out for Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn teacher Jan Brown and her husband Ron. This was the first year for the second section of fourth graders and their teacher Jessica Todd, along with her husband Matt. A total of 27 students attended the field trip. The agenda for the Friday and Saturday morning trip started with a tour of Thomas Manufacturing, where students were able to see the making of park equipment first hand.
Next, the class was off to Spring Lake Park for picnics in the park, a nature hike, a naturalist presentation by Laura Kohn, and a songbird presentation from Sharon Andreasen.
Volunteers helped with a grilled meal, fishing, s'mores, and campfire stories. Then it was off to bed for the students in their designated tents. The trip was complete with a morning breakfast of pancakes and sausage made over the campfire and more time for fishing. It was a time for memories and a great introduction to the upcoming summer season. Photo contributed
