Join the fun of Quimby 125

Monday, June 18, 2012

Quimby will be celebrating 125 years on Thursday, June 29-Sunday, and July 1. Annually the town holds Watermelon Days and this will be this year's version - bigger and better than ever. Many events for the public to enjoy and participate in will be happening during the celebration.

There will be an antique tractor show on Saturday, from 10 am 1 pm and anyone who has an antique tractor that they would like to display is invited to participate.

Also on Saturday, there will be a Car Show to be held from 1-5 pm. If you have a classic car that you would like to show or just enjoy looking at cars, this event is for you.

And don't forget the big parade to be held Saturday at 2 pm with line up beginning at noon. You still have time to get your entry in, send your business or group name, contact, phone, and a brief description of your entry to Tracy Stevenson at PO Box 33, Quimby, IA 51049 or fax to 712-445-2001.

Other events include a craft show and flea market to be held in the town park. If you would like to rent a booth for this event, to be held on Friday and Saturday from 10 am -5 pm both days contact Deb Clark at 712-229-3565.

There will be a quilt show on Friday and Saturday from 10:30 am 8 pm both days. The quilt show will be located in the Baptist Church, (formerly St. John's Catholic Church) and your quilts will be welcome for this display. Contact JoAnne Tapper at 712-225-5213 for information about set up for this event.

Other events include performances by the McNeal Family, Triumphant Sound, A Magic and Balloon Show and crowning of Little Miss Quimby. There will also be an all school reunion with over 500 former, Quimby, Willow and River Valley graduates signed up to attend.

On Friday night there will be a free dance with music provided by Willow graduate Mark Jenkins and band Riata from 8 pm midnight. Saturday night the Quimby Fire Department will host a dance with music by Omaha based band Wicked Fun. There will be a $10 per person charge for this band, and beer garden will be open both nights.

And don't forget about the old standby Quimby Watermelon Days events that will once again be happening, including a midway, BINGO stand, local church food stand, kids parade and of course free watermelon to be served Saturday night at 8 pm.
