American Legion 'Got Your 6' campaign

Wednesday, June 20, 2012

The Cherokee American Legion and Auxiliary 230 is proud to be a sponsor of "Got Your 6" campaign.

This initiative joins forces with The First Lady, U.S. Chamber of Commerce's Hiring Our Heroes, and Top Tier nonprofits.

This campaign spotlights veterans as civic assets and leaders, focuses on six pillars: Jobs, Education, Health, Housing, Family, and Leadership.

The "Got Your 6" is a campaign designed to change the conversation in America. Veterans are seen as assets and civic leaders who will update our community. The resources of top U.S. entertainment studios, networks, guilds, and agencies as well as more than two dozen nonprofit organizations, this program will ensure successful reintegration of veterans into our communities.

Over the next five years, more than one million service members will return home. Americans must welcome this generation of veterans home, it is crucial that they are seen as leaders and civilian property. Through this collaboration of many groups the money raised in selling the pins as well as donations will help veterans come home and become a major part of the community with their knowledge.

You can go online to "Got Your 6" and read all the great information. Also Our Unit and Post is proudly wearing our "Got Your 6" pins.

Organizers learned from all this information that this saying is a military saying for "I got your back." Organizers want all veterans, whether just returning, or have been home a long time, to know the American Legion would help in any way that they can.

Veterans can contact the Cherokee American Legion Post Vice Commander David Brown at 712-229-7778. Or contact Claudia Brown at 712-229-7934. Claudia Brown stated, "We are very excited about getting into this program. So I encourage everyone to check into it. So to all Veterans, We Got Your Back."
