HOLSTEIN - Ridge View High School hosted a baseball tournament last Saturday and the host Raptors wound up winnning the tournament, beating Ar-We-Va and Alta-Aurelia to earn the title.
In their first game, Ridge View's Travis Hoeppner held Ar-We-Va to just one hit en route to a 1-0 win. Hoeppner also struck out five batters, and he was 1-2 at the plate,
Kris Alesch was also 1-2 and drove in the game's only run in the top of the 3rd inning; Austin Graff and Heath Clark also had one hit apiece for the Raptors.
In their second game, Alta-Aurelia scored a run in the top of the first on a Neil Marshall double, Ridge View came back in their half of the first to tally four times, and that was all the scoring as the Raptors took a 4-1 victory to capture the Ridge View Tournament championship.
Seth Johnson took the win on the mound for Ridge View, giving up one run on four hits, while striking out five. Johnson also collected three of the Raptors' six hits, including a double, and he stole two bases as well. Kirk Alesch and Ryan Garthoff
drove in runs for Ridge View.
On Monday, the Raptors went on the road to meet Odebolt-Arthur/Battle Creek-Ida Grove in a Western Valley Conference game and they took a 3-1 victory over the Falcons behind a 2-hit, 12-strikeout pitching performance of Kris Alesch. Seth Johnson swiped three bases for the Raptors, Heath Clark slugged a double, and Austin Graff drove in one run.
On Tuesday, the Raptors hosted West Harrison, and took an 11-0, five inning verdict over the WVC South opponent.
Kyle Wessling spun the shutout win, allowing two hits and striking out eight. Ryan Garthoff went 2-2 and drove in five runs for Ridge View, while Heath Clark also knocked in a pair of runs.
The Ridge View Raptors are now 13-4 on the season and 7-2 in the Western Valley Conference.
