MARCUS - The 2012 Marcus Fair will be held from Aug. 9 through Aug. 12.
Schedule, premiums and information is now available at the Marcus Fair website www.marcusiowa.com. Just click on the Marcus Fair tab. Printed copies of the premiums and rules for each class will soon be available at the Marcus Post Office. A printed schedule will be in the newspaper in late July.
The Marcus Fair will have the beef, sheep, swine, chicken, rabbit and horse shows as usual. Keep in mind that all animals will be veterinary inspected upon entry to the fairgrounds. If your animal is found to have an infectious disease or to be unhealthy, you will be asked to leave the fairgrounds.
All swine must be identified by a USDA ear tag if they only have one ID in their ear (i.e. 4-H tag or ear notch).
If you have an ear notch and a 4-H tag, that should suffice. The animals basically need two forms of ID in their ears. The USDA tags are available from your local veterinarian. The ID numbers will be recorded at check in. This is a state rule for exhibition, no exceptions will be made and this includes purebred hogs according the Iowa Dept. of Ag.
All poultry must be tested negative for pullorum within 90 days of the Marcus show and you must bring proof of testing to the show.
They will allow testing at check in, however, because it is a blood test, there can be some bruising at the sampling site, which could affect the bird's appearance during show.
Marcus Fair 7th Annual 1K/5K walk or run will be held again on Saturday, Aug. 11. This event honors the memories of Michael Letsche, Hunter Heidesch and Sawyer Leavitt. Registration forms available online at www.marcusiowa.com under the fun run link on the Saturday schedule.
Again, a printed form will be in the newspaper soon.
The Marcus Action Club will be hosting mud volleyball again on Sunday, Aug, 12. Get your teams together now and get ready for a day of fun in the mud.
