Basically, it will be pitching by committee this year for the 2012 Cherokee Braves baseball team, again coached by Chad Osler.
The Braves must mix in a blend of youth and experience, and battle a depth shortcoming, to produce as tradition has so gloriously allowed in the rugged Lakes Conference battles.
Senior lettermen back with ample varsity experience include Jake Spindler, Adam Pitts, Dillon Drefke, Nate Seliger, and Austin Winchell.
Among that group, each will see plenty of mound duties as the season unfolds, with Spindler and Pitts filling the middle of the infield, Seliger in the infield, Drefke catching, and Winchell patrolling the outfield. These seniors also will be heavily counted on to carry much of the load at the plate to lead Cherokee's offensive production.
Some talented underclassmen also will fill vital roles for the Braves, including Zac Smith who will be a leading pitcher and also play first base, Brett Walker, Luke Zeimen and Lucas Lamoureaux as utility players who also may see pitching duties, and Marc Husman, a fleet center fielder and a danger on the base paths.
Other young players who will pitch, along with other positions, include Levi Lundquist, Caleb Smith, Connor Voge, Kyle Comstock, Alec Schultz, and Hunter Eaton.
