MMC softball team a threat to all comers this season

MARCUS - A talented senior foursome with loads of skills and several years of varsity experience will lead veteran coach Leo Hupke's 2012 Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn softball team to much success this year.

The four seniors comprise the five returning letter winners, including Kayla Foresman, Erica Dreckman, Jalyn Doeden, and Brandi Orr, and junior Kayla Theisen.

Among the promising newcomers for Hupke's team are sophomore Heather Hoefling, and freshmen Haley Moser, Alison Meehan, and Beth Specht.

Foresman returns as a first-team All-War Eagle Conference pitcher, Doeden an All-WEC catcher, and Dreckman, an All-WEC infielder (shortstop).

According to MMC assistant coach Lisa Haveman, the younger girls have been showing much promise at their positions and keep improving at the plate, while the veteran senior leaders continue to show them the way while excelling at their positions.

With the WEC among the toughest softball conferences in the State in any class, the Eagles must battle traditonal king-pen and defending Class 1A State champs Akron-Westfield for the top prize in the conference again this season.
