Julie Hering-Kent, Executive Director of the Cherokee Chamber of Commerce, was elected to serve as the Vice President of the Western Iowa Tourism Region at their recent annual meeting in Wall Lake. "Cherokee County and the City of Cherokee have a long history of support for the promotion and development of the tourism industry in western Iowa. Looking back at the 25-year history of the Western Iowa Tourism Region, it is evident that business leaders, attractions, the Chamber of Commerce and Cherokee County Supervisors have provided leadership and funding to match the annual investment of the Iowa Economic Development Authority" said Michele Walker, Regional Director. "Julie's experience, enthusiasm, energy and commitment to the development and marketing of tourism opportunities in western Iowa make her an excellent addition to our Board of Directors, and now her service as Vice President of the organization" said Liz Birkel-Leddy, President of the Region and Director of the Golden Hills Resource Conservation and Development Office in Oakland.

The 200 + private member organization works to connect communities, attractions and businesses interested in developing and promoting travel and tourism in western Iowa. The Western Iowa Tourism Region is funded by the Iowa Economic Development Authority, County Boards of Supervisors within the Regional boundary, and private memberships. Regional bi-monthly meetings are held throughout the 36-county area and the public is invited to attend.
