Quimby will be celebrating 125 years on Friday, June 29 through Sunday, July 1. Annually, the town holds Watermelon Days and this will be this year's version bigger and better than ever. Many events will be happening during the celebration for the public to enjoy and participate in.

On Friday from 2-5 pm kids day will be held on the Midway. During that time rides will be half price. At 4 pm Quimby will crown two Little Miss Quimby's to reign during the event. Also for the kids on Friday at 6 pm the Kids Parade will be held. This year the theme is Yesteryear.

At 6:30 there will be an auction held at the tent with a variety of donated items to be auctioned off, as well as Peacock and Willow uniforms and some items from the former school located in Quimby.

There will be an antique tractor show on Saturday, from 10 am -- 1 pm and anyone who has an antique tractor that they would like to display is invited to participate. If you would like to participate in a tractor ride to the show, meet at First Cooperative elevator on the River Road in Cherokee at 9 am Saturday morning and ride along with the group.

Also on Saturday, there will be a Car Show to be held from 1-5 pm. If you have a classic car that you would like to show or just enjoy looking at cars, this event is for you.

And don't forget the big parade to be held Saturday at 2 pm.

Other events include a craft show and flea market to be held in the town park, to be held on Friday and Saturday from 10 am -5 pm both days.

There will be a quilt show on Friday and Saturday from 10:30 am -- 8 pm both days. The quilt show will be located in the Baptist Church, (formerly St. John's Catholic Church). Other events include performances by the McNeal Family, Triumphant Sound, A Magic and Balloon Show and crowning of Little Miss Quimby. There will also be an all school reunion with over 560 former, Quimby, Willow and River Valley graduates signed up to attend.

On Friday night there will be a free dance with music provided by Willow graduate Mark Jenkins and band Riata from 8 pm -- midnight. Saturday night the Quimby Fire Department will host a dance with music by Omaha based band Wicked Fun. There will be a $10 per person charge for this band, and beer garden will be open both nights.

And don't forget about the old standby Quimby Watermelon Days events that will once again be happening, including a midway, BINGO stand, local church food stand, kids parade and of course 5,000 pounds of free watermelon to be served Saturday night at 8 pm.
