Cherokee County Fair full of family entertainment

89th annual 4-day celebration July 12, 13, 14, & 15

The Cherokee County Fair opens Thursday, July 12 and runs through Sunday, July 15 at the Cherokee County Fairgrounds.

Daily admission will be $6 for adults (13 and older) and $4 for kids, with ages four and under admitted free. The Open Swine Show will not be held this year due to fire damage to the swine building.

On Saturday July, 14 from noon to 5 p.m. is kids day and children 12 and under receive free gate. Season ticket prices at the gate are $14 for adults and $8 for kids.

Daily happenings at the fair are as follows: the 4-H and Family Crafts buildings will be open from 10 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. The Meyer Petting Zoo will be from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m., and the Commercial Building will be open from 10 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, noon to 9:30 p.m. Thursday though Friday, and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday. McDermott Amusement will be providing the carnival rides and Midway.

Some of Thursday's special events will be the Kachunga and the Alligator Show at 1 p.m., 4 p.m., and 7:30 p.m. The Kelsey Doll performance will be at the Activity Building at 7 p.m. At 7:30 p.m. the presentation of flags by Vietnam Veterans of America, VFW, and the American Legion will be at 7:45 p.m. and the T & C Rodeo Company will present its Bull Riding Event at 8 p.m. with fireworks to follow.

Some of Friday's special events will again be the Kachunga and the Alligator Show at 1 p.m., 4 p.m., and 7 p.m. Be sure to check out the Conservation Station from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. The Cherokee County Pork Producers will be serving pork burgers beginning at 6 p.m.

The presentation of flags by Vietnam Veterans of America, VFW, and the American Legion will be at 7 p.m. with the popular Demo Derby to follow at 7:30 p.m.

Chainsaw carvings from Jeff Klatt of Runaway Saws will be auctioned during the intermission at the demo derby, at 8 p.m., and all artwork will be sold to the highest bidder.

Some of Saturday's special events will be the program Ladies Day with Darcy Maulsby - "Have Your Cake and Eat it, Too" sponsored by Cherokee Villa at 10 a.m. At 11:30 the Diaper Derby and Baby Costume Contest will be held at the Activity Building.

Beginning at noon the Pedal Tractor Pull registration will be held at the Main Stage and the Sanctioned Pedal Tractor will be at 12:30 p.m. Also from noon to 7 p.m. the Digital Photo Booth and Free Classic Arcade Games will be open in the Activity Building along with XBOX Kinect game from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Kachunga and the Alligator Show will be at 1 p.m., 4 p.m., and 6 p.m. At 4 p.m. there will be a "G" rated movie, "The Smurfs" in the Activity Building.

Cherokee County Beef Producers will begin grilling beef burgers also at 4 p.m.

The presentation of flags by Vietnam Veterans of America, VFW, and the American Legion will be at 6:45 p.m. with the 2WD and 4WD NPPA Truck Pulls beginning at 6:30 p.m. with chainsaw carvings auctioned during intermission.

At 7:30 p.m. the "Ugly Cake" judging will take place.

At 9 p.m. a Teen Dance will be held at the Activity Building.

Sunday begins with Makin' TRACCs, the third annual Tractor Ride Around Cherokee County at 9 a.m.

Church Service will be held at the Activity Building at 9:30 a.m. At noon there will be Quilt Turning at the Activity Building.

Kachunga and the Alligator Show will be held at noon and 3 p.m.

At 1 p.m. the Bill Riley Talent Show will be held at the Activity Building.

At 2 p.m. the Antique Tractor Pull will be held and from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. B & C Productions presents a game - Cherokee County version - Activity Building.

The Cherokee County Fair Queen crowning will be held at 5 p.m. at the Activity Building and the new Queen will be crowned by 2011 Fair Queen Sara Peters.
