MARCUS - The Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn baseball team posted a 5-run second inning and then held off a potent 5-run rally in the sixth inning by Le Mars Gehlen to eke out a 6-5 War Eagle Confernce win here Monday night. The Eagles scored the winning run in their half of the sixth inning.
Andrew Hoelfing provided most the Eagle fireworks in the game, blasting two triples, and finishing with an explosive 3-4 at the plate, three RBI, and two runs scored. Jared Gross also had a 3-4 night and scored twice for the winners as MMC pounded out 10 hits. Tanner Utesch also had a hit, RBI, and scored a run for the Eagles, and Isaiah Petersen had a hit and scored a run.
Dylan Spieler got the pitching win, allowing one hit, one walk, and striking out two in two innings of relief work. Starter Jared Gross gave up five runs on six hits and one walk, with three Ks in five innings of work.
The Eagles end regular season play tonight at Remsen-Union.
