The Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn softball team split a pair of games last week, defeating Orange City Unity Christian 8-1 in a weather make-up completion game that was rained out in progress June 14, and falling 2-1 in 10 innings in a heartbreaker at Remsen-Union.

The win against Unity Christian resulted as MMC assumed a 2-0 lead and a 1-1 count on the first batter in the second inning.

The Eagles broke the game open in the fourth when winning pitcher Kayla Foresman rocked a three-run home run to finish the game with a 3-4 night, two doubles, and four RBI. MMC sealed the deal in the sixth with two more runs after Erica Dreckman led off the inning with a double and Foresman doubled behind her to allow Dreckman to score. Foresman then advanced to third base on a sacrifice by Brandi Orr and scored on a fielding error by the Knights.

Foresman gave up just one run on one hit, walked three, and struck out 10 in the extra-inning contest.

Foreman absorbed the hard-luck pitching loss at R-U, allowing one earned run on seven scattered hits, three walks, and seven strikeouts.

The Eagles tallied just one run on 11 hits, with Jalyn Doeden leading the offense with a 3-4 game and a sacrifice, and Kayla Theisen 3-5. Theisen also was credited with some outstanding defence in the game.

The Eagles boast a shiny 16-8 record, and stand 13-5 in the rugged War Eagle Conference.

MMC starts post-season action in Class 1A in Cleghorn tonight against the Storm Lake St. Mary's/Laurens-Marathon winner.
