South O'Brien girls bow out at Regionals

HARTLEY - The South O'Brien girls played Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn here on Tuesday in the first round of the Class 2A Regional Softball Tournament and the Hawks overpowered their War Eagle Conference foe 11-0 in a 5 inning contest.

Sophomore Taylor Paulsen took the loss for South O'Brien, going 2 1/3 innings and giving up 10 runs (two earned) on five hits, while walking four and striking out two. Emily Riedemann threw 1 2/3 innings and allowed one uneraned run on one hit and struck out one batter. The Wolverines had only one hit in the game, a single by senior Casie Rehder.

South O'Brien finishes the season with an 11-24 record and HMS met Emmetsburg Thursday on the E-Hawks' home field in the next round of the tournament.
