Cherokee girls' season comes to a close

Friday, July 6, 2012

IDA GROVE - The Cherokee Washington High School girls' softball season came to an end here when they dropped an 11-1, five inning game to Odebolt-Arthur/Battle Creek-Ida Grove in the first round of the Class 2A Regional Softball Tournament.

Cherokee managed just two hits - a single by Danni Roethler and a double by Erin Kelley - in the game. Freshmen hurlers Brooklyn Hoeppner and Emily Haselhoff were in the pitcher's circle for the Braves. Hoeppner threw 1/3 of an inning, allowing two earned runs on three hits, and Haselhoff threw 4 2/3 innings, allowing eight earned runs on seven hits, while walking two and striking out one.

Cherokee ends the season with a 2 - 26 mark, but since the team had no seniors, they will return an experirnced squad next season. Megan Hummel was the only junior on this year's team and Danni Roehler and Ariana Smith comprised the sophomore players. All other players were either freshmen or 8th graders.
