LYTTON - The Alta-Aurelia girls avenged a loss last week to South Central Calhoun as they defeated the Titans, 14-6, in the first round of the Class 2A Regional Tournament here on Tuesday.
The Warriors' two young hurlers, sophomore Tayler Rohwer and freshman Jenna Snyder, shared duties in the pitcher's circle on Tuesday, with Rohwer getting the win. She allowed two earned runs on seven hits in five innings, walking six and fanning three. Snyder threw two innings and allowed three earned runs on three hits, walking one and striking out two. At the plate, Alta-Aurelia amassed 17 hits as a team. with Rohwer, Jill Buckendahl and Christena Heschke each collecting three hits and Katie Turnquist driving in four runs on two hits. Rohwer drove in five runs, and her three base knocks included a home run.
Alta-Aurelia (15-18) was scheduled to meet Ridge View (16-12), which drew a first-round bye, in the tournament's second round on Thursday at Galva. The Chronicle Times will have details of that game in Monday's edition.
