GALVA - The Alta-Aurelia girls scored three runs in the 7th inning to come back and defeat Ridge View, 9-8, in Class 2A Regional play here on Thursday. The win earned the 16-18 Warriors the right to meet a 22-8 Fort Dodge St. Edmond team at Rogers Park in Fort Dodge in the Regional Semifinals on Friday. The winner of that contest will play again in Ogden on Monday for the right to advance to the State Tournament.
A-A and Ridge View combined for a total of 25 hits Thursday night, with the Warriors collecting 10 and the Raptors 15. Ridge View's Dana Hustedt had a perfect 5-for-5 night at the plate, including a double and home run, while teammates Ashlynn Bienner, Mandy Wolver and Sage Bennett each had two hits. Alta-Aurelia pitcher Tayler Rohwer had three hits, including a two-bagger, and her battery-mate, Alexis Hernandez, slugged a two-run homer. Jill Buckendahl and Katie Turnquist each had a pair of hits for the Warriors.
Rohwer got the win for the Warriors, as she pitched seven innings and allowed eight earned runs on 15 hits, walking four and striking out three. Gretchen Kistenmacher suffered the loss, pitching 6 1/3 innings and giving up nine runs, four of them earned, on 10 hits, while walking three and striking out five.
The win improved Alta-Aurelia's season record to 16-18, and Ridge View finished the season with a 16-13 mark.
