Dennis Leroy Draper, 70, passed away July 3, 2012 at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. He bravely fought Acute Myeloid Leukemia and was pronounced in remission just as a fungal pneumonia overtook his chemo-weakened immune system.
Dennis was born Feb. 4, 1942 to Merlyn and Dorothy Draper in Cherokee. He lived his youth in Quimby, and attended Quimby schools until 1959, then the family moved to a farm near Sutherland, and Dennis graduated from Sutherland High School in 1961. After that, he
attended Wayne State U, Nebraska and Winona Technical College, Winona Minn. The latter, earning an Associate degree in Tool and Die machining. In Texas, Dennis worked at Bell Helicopter and later he retired from Lockheed Martin, as a quality control machinist. He enjoyed being able to say "my fingerprints are on parts I made for the International Space Station."
Dennis is survived by his wife Lexi Draper of Burleson,Texas, three children, three step-children, eight grandchildren, a brother Wayne (Sandy) Draper of Minden Nevada, a sister LeeAnn (Rod) Schwarz of Sutherland Iowa and a brother Richard (Diane) Draper of New Richland, Minn.
He was preceded in death by his mother Dorothy (Montgomery) Draper and father Merlyn, both passing away in 1996 and his sister Mary (Draper) Christopher in 1981. He is laid to rest at Burleson Cemetery, Burleson, Texas. Dennis is missed
by all who loved him.
