SIOUX RAPIDS - The Alta-Aurelia boys met Sioux Central here on Tuesday in the Class 2A Regional Tournament semi-finals,and the Warriors used the two-hit pitching of Jaden Holton, some timely hitting and good base running to post a 5-0 win over the Rebels.
Holton, a senior, pitched seven shutout innings for the Warriors, allowing two hits, walking two and striking out seven.
Alta-Aurelia had seven hits as a team - six singles and Austin Delp's 2-run triple - and stole five bases.
Brad Ripke took the loss for the Rebels, who finish the season with a fine 20-9 mark. The senior hurler pitched six innings and gave up four earned runs on seven hits, while walking two and fanning four.
The two Twin Lakes Conference rivals had met twice previously this season, with each team winning one close game, but A-A was able to take the rubber game Tuesday, and they now advance to the District 2 championship game on Saturday against North Union, a 6-3 winner over Estherville-Lincoln Central on Tuesday.
That game will be played at Emmetsburg, and the first pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. The winner will advance to the Substate game in Spencer.
The win boosted Alta-Aurelia's season record to 21-10.
