Pastor Schroder promised to faithfully carry out the preaching and teaching of God's Word, administer the sacraments, give of his time to pastoral care and be a witness to the community as a disciple of Jesus Christ.
Pastor Schroder, along with wife, Heidi, and two children, Noah, 7, and Sarah, 6, moved to Holstein in June to serve as Faith Lutheran's first full-time pastor.
Several AALC pastors participated in Sunday's Installation Service in addition to Rev. Twito, including Rev. Joe Dapelo, pastor at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Evansdale, who preached the sermon; Rev. Len Brokenshire, senior pastor at Ascension Lutheran Church in Waterloo, who served as worship leader; and Rev. Paul Johansen, father-in-law of Pastor Schroder and pastor at Grace Lutheran Church in Nunda, S.D., and Lake Madison Lutheran Church in Lake Madison, S.D., who served as lector.
"Even though I have been here for several weeks, the Installation Service makes the call here more official," said Pastor Schroder. "I look forward to many years ahead of fruitful laboring for the Gospel of Jesus Christ. My family and I are enjoying putting down roots and calling this home."
Joyful music for the service was provided by the Faith Praise Team - Dave Borchers, Debbie Friedrichsen, Sheryl Leonard, Deb and Ron Parker and Tracy Terry - together with Heidi Schroder on guitar and Sharen Borchers on organ and piano. The very special soloist was Sarah Schroder, who sang in both English and Spanish.
Following the special 4 p.m. service at Faith Lutheran, a meal and fellowship were held at the Veterans Memorial Hall. Numerous visiting clergy and missionaries were in attendance.
Faith members thank all visitors for gathering with them on this memorable day and offer a special note of thanks to Rev. Dr. Dan Schroeder from Mighty Fortress Evangelical Lutheran Church in Seward, Neb.; and Rev. Joel Scheiwe, Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod (LCMS) missionary in Hong Kong, for joining them so far from home.
The Schroders are originally from North Dakota and also have lived in Minnesota and Washington. They were called to Holstein from Duluth, Minn., where he served as associate pastor and director of Youth Ministries at Christ Lutheran Church.
The son of missionaries, Pastor Schroder felt the call to the ministry while he was studying nursing in North Dakota. In addition to earning his Nursing degree, he continued with his Biblical studies.
Pastor Schroder and Heidi, whose father also is an AALC pastor, both earned bachelor's degrees in Nursing from the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks. In 2001, he earned a Certificate in Biblical Studies at Trinity Lutheran College in Issaquah, Wash. He earned the Master of Divinity in 2005 from the American Lutheran Theological Seminary in Minneapolis, Minn., a seminary of The AALC, which was formed 25 years ago from former American Lutheran Church (ALC) congregations. The AALC and the LCMS share altar and pulpit fellowship.
