Supervisors OK policy and plan amendment

Thursday, August 2, 2012

In a brief weekly meeting Tuesday, the Cherokee County Board of Supervisors heard a report from County engineer Dave Shanahan on a new Federal Policy, called the Title 6 Policy, which counties have been asked to approve.

Shanahan said the policy is essentially a re-stating of the Equal Opportunity Act and other non-discriminatory laws. Shanahan feels that his Department has always complied with such laws when hiring, but under this new poilicy, they must sign off that all persons they hire, as well as all contractors they hire for a project, operate under the Equal Opportunity Act and other ant-discriminatory acts.

The Board approved the policy.

Emergency Management Coordinator Ben Shuberg discussed the Multi-Juridiction amendment to the Local Hazard Mitigation Plan with the Siouxland Interstate Metropolitan Planning Council (SIMPCO), and said that the amendment is just a lowering of the amount of money that SIMPCO is going to be receiving, and will not affect the County.

The Board approved the amendment.
