The first year of the Cherokee Junior Golf League at the Cherokee Golf & Country Club was a big success, with 28 youths participating on four Monday mornings starting in June.

The $17 fee covered the costs for the t-shirts, trophies, medals, tournament meal, flag winner balls, and a tree donated to the golf course.

Fran Galles conducted the league and gave public thanks to Gayle Cedar and all the volunteer parents and walkers, along with those who donated golf balls, tees, clubs, pull carts, etc., and everyone else who helped with the program.

"I watched a wonderful group of kids play each week," said Galles. "They exhibited great golf etiquette and learned a lot, and had a lot of fun. I'm very proud of these kids and hope they continue to play and love the game of golf for a very long time.

"A big thank you goes to the Cherokee Golf & Country Club and board members who allowed thid Junior Golf League to form and play for free. This was a great thing for the kids and the community. Thanks to everyone involved."
