Should Jazz & Blues Festival change its name?

Monday, August 13, 2012

Jim Adamson, the Coordinator of the annual Cherokee Jazz & Blues Festival, is requesting public input regarding a possible name change for the popular January Festival.

Adamson said that some Festival Planning Committee members have suggested changing the name of the Festival to better fit what the event has morphed into regarding the various music genres playing the event.

From its origin, the Festival featured highly skilled, professional jazz and blues musicians and bands. However, through its years, different styles of music have been offered, from jazz and blues, to rock and pop, to country, big band, and swing.

Now, some Committee members feel that the time has come to change the name to more accurately represent the many types of music to be offered, all in an effort to keep the Festival popular and fresh, with a focus on attracting more and younger fans.

Adamson and others disagree on changing the name but as team players are seeking input from the public with their suggestions and possible name change ideas.

Please e-mail any suggestions in the next two weeks to

Or, you can contact Adamson directly at 200 N. Sixth St., Apt. 11, Cherokee, IA 51012; phone 712-229-9502; or email jpa91843@q.com, or
