George F. Moore, 90, of Cherokee, passed away on Sunday afternoon, Aug. 12, 2012 at the St. Luke's Regional Medical Center in Sioux City.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Aug. 18, at 10:30 a.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Cherokee. Rev. Magrey deVega will officiate. Burial will be in the Good Hope Cemetery north of Correctionville. There will be military rites at the graveside conducted by L.A. Wescott Post #2253 of the V.F.W. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. at the church on Saturday. Visitation will be on Friday from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. with the family present from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee. George was born on December 26, 1921 at Lakin, Kansas to Charles & Edith (Perry) Moore. He attended Dakota City, Nebraska schools. He was married to Hazel Hubbard on August 12, 1946 at Dakota City, Neb. He had worked at Baumann's Bakery in Cherokee for over 20 years and had been custodian for the Cherokee Community School System for many years. He also owned and operated Moore's Vacuum Cleaner Sales & Service. He had been a resident of Cherokee since 1946. George was a veteran of WW II. He was a member of the St. Paul's United Methodist Church, L.A. Wescott Post #2253 of the V.F.W. and Treptow Post #230 of the American Legion. George enjoyed sitting down to a good meal, playing cribbage, pinochle, fishing, bowling and pitching horseshoes.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Richard and Charles ("Chalk") Moore and a granddaughter Elizabeth Moore.

He is survived by his wife Hazel and two sons: David (Diane) Moore of Larrabee; Allen (Jan) Moore of Sioux City; six grandchildren: 14 great-grandchildren and two step-great grandchildren: Wendy (Chris) Richardson and their children Taylor & Tyler; Wade (Cherlynn) Moore and their children Logan & Allison; Willow (Bryan) McLaughlin and their children Jonathan Slay, Alyssa Stanton, Grace McLaughlin and step-great grandchildren Chance & Hayden McLaughlin; Christopher (Tiffany) Moore and their children Quinn, Alaine, Lorna & Niles; Janal Davis and her children Kaityn and Keith; Jason (Kelina) Moore and their daughter Tori; two brothers and one sister: Stanley Moore of Huntsville, Mo.; Frank (Pat) Moore of Las Vegas, Nevada; Mary (Larry) Conley of Omaha, Neb.; also several nieces and nephews.
