MEFC to hold free will concert

Monday, August 20, 2012

The Lesters
Meriden Evangelical Free Church will be hosting a concert on Sunday, Aug. 26 at 6 p.m. featuring The Lesters.

Often called "St. Louis' First Family of Gospel Music," The Lesters, from St. Louis, Mo., have been sharing the Word through song for four generations. With more than an 80 year history and numerous albums behind them, the group proudly brings the third & fourth generation to the stage for a sound that is 100% ~ "PURE LESTER."

The Lesters have a rich heritage in Gospel Music which dates back to 1925. Now, in their third and fourth generation, The Lesters travel over 100,000 miles annually, singing in churches, concert halls, theme parks and state & county fairs across America and Canada.

The Lesters have three family members who have been recognized for their talent, commitment and contributions to Gospel Music. Grandparents Harvey and Bobo Lester and father Herschel Lester all share a place of honor as inductees into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame.

The Lesters' signature sound is a blend of inspired arrangements and vocal artistry, led by longtime performer Brian Lester. Brian, who also serves as emcee and manager, has been singing with the family since he was four. His vibrant voice and easy rapport with audiences continue to make him a favorite.

Brian's sister, Ginger Pitchers, is also a lifelong performer, having recorded for The Lesters when she was only two. Ginger's smooth alto voice lends style to the group, as do her soul-filled renditions of new and classic gospel hits. She arranges all Lester vocals.

As a fourth generation performer, Jonathan Lester brings a real freshness to the group. Like his father, Brian, Jon was "born to sing," performing at a very young age. But he remains inspired by the generations of Lesters who went before him and by the message of God's eternal grace.

The Lesters take pride in their family heritage, but consider God's greater family as the real reason for their continued work. As they prayerfully pass their legacy to future generations, The Lesters hope to move others to a deeper level of spiritual commitment.

They have appeared as guests on numerous radio and television outlets including Paul Heils' Gospel Greats, The Reach Solid Gospel Network, The Nashville Network, Gospel Music Television, Southern Entertainment Television Network, ACTS Network and Bill & Gloria Gaither's Homecoming Videos.

There is no admission charge for the concert, but a free will offering will be received.
