Darel Heschke, the son of Charlie and Bessie (Moriarty) Heschke, was born on November 15, 1920 in Buena Vista County. His childhood years were spent in and around Truesdale, where he received his education. After his schooling, Darel worked for Everett Anderson, helping on the farm.
On August 16, 1941, Darel was united in marriage to Alberta Sanders in South Sioux City, NE. Following their marriage, they lived and farmed near Alta. On March 12, 1945, Darel enlisted in the United States Army, where he proudly served during WWII until his honorable discharge on November 15, 1946. After his enlistment, Darel and Alberta farmed for Nathan Anderson for many years. They eventually purchased a farm north of Alta, where they farmed and raised hogs, cattle, and chickens.
